The Marine Division of the Honourable East India Company originally published the chart in 1823. Lieutenants J. M. Guy & G. B. Brucks completed the original survey work prior to that date, and it was drawn by M: Houghton.
The chart reveals no signs of settlement such as fresh water wells or evidence of buildings. In the waters around the island the track of the vessel taking the hydrographical soundings can be clearly seen. Also shown is the ‘Foul ground’ to the east and south of the island. True Meridian is shown. Within the Remarks, latitude and longitude are given as 24º 47’ 54” North, 52º 42’ 15” East, with a variation of 4º 50’ West (these are taken from the north end of the island). On a point of interest, the island is located at 24º 80’ 85”, 52º 55’ 02”.
