Bahamas & the Caribbean
The Caribbean was highly significant to both Europe and America throughout the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. The War of Independence is generally regarded to have been fought over 13 British-controlled colonies. There were actually 26 colonies altogether, the other 13 being Caribbean islands making this a military, commercially and politically important region.
The Bahamas have, to this day remained Sovereign British territory despite their proximity to mainland America, and acted as important trading posts during the 18th and 19th centuries.
