This trigonometrical chart of the island of Seer Beni Yass was drawn by Lieutenant M. Houghton as part of the survey undertaken in these waters by Lieutenants J. M. Guy, G. B. Brucks and R. Cogan. The survey was conducted between 1822 and 1825, on behalf of the Honorable East India Company Marine Service. The chart itself is dated 1822.

In the waters around the island the track of the vessel taking the hydrographical soundings can be clearly seen, suggesting that the main aim of this plan is to establish safe harbour entry: specifically recorded are the soundings through the channel and into the natural harbour. Also shown are sand, mud and rocks to the south of the island, as orientated on the plan. The chart reveals no signs of settlement such as fresh water wells, or evidence of buildings.

Magnetic Meridian Variation 5º 15’ Westerly is shown. No latitude or longitudes are given. On a point of interest, the island is located at 24º 27’ 26”, 52º 61’ 70”.
