The manuscript is drawn by the hand of the surveyor, Captain Eatwell, who served on HC Cruiser Banares under the order of Captain William Hill, HMS Towey.

On the survey Eatwell provides detailed references in both red (referring to hydrographical information such as channels and anchorages) and black ink (referring to cartographical points of interest and notable land marks). Soundings clearly show the track of the survey vessel working in the approaches and harbour. Of significant note is the prominence given on this, and others surveys and charts at the time, of the Portuguese Fort on Bahrain and the fort on Arad. The settlements of Manama (on the Island of Bahrain) and Maharag (on the Island of Arad) are also clearly marked. To the north of Bahrain lies an expansive shoal that was, at this time, referred to by the British as ‘Teignmouth’ (this appears on other surveys – see Chart A719 Heritage Charts). As is so often seen on surveys such as this, trees and vegetation are clearly marked. The Hills of Katif are referred to as being ‘in sight from Bahrain Reef’ (suggesting the significance of Katif at this time). The latitude of Manama was recorded as 26º 14’ north and longitude of 50º 37’ east. Manama lies at latitude 26º 23’ and longitude 50º 57’.
