The Map & Chart Collections
Maps and Charts
The CaribbeanThe Caribbean was highly significant to both Europe and America through the 17th, 18th
and 19th centuries, mainly due to the island production of rum, spices and sugar. The
American struggle throughout the War of Independence was fueled by several Caribbean
islands which provided illicit trade through the southern mainland ports.
The maps and charts in this collection contain a combination of material which was published
at the time as well as some magnificent manuscript surveys which have never been seen before.
